News of the Week

This is a page from my grandmother's daily calendar from 50 years ago this week.

There was a ball game on Sunday. That was a standard into my childhood, where neighbors were welcome to come play softball in the pasture on good-weather Sundays. Though the players transitioned to volleyball as they aged before eventually dropping sports altogether.


She washed on Monday, which was her habit, along with many other homes of the era.


The men did field work and shelled corn, before the 4 inches of rain hit. There were many visitors and a couple trips to town.


It's nice to think of that little farm abuzz with activity in the summer of 1973. No one lives there now, and will not again.
